If you\u2019re in the market for a new air conditioning system to get you through the summer, but you don\u2019t have any ducts in the walls of your home, a ductless AC system is the right choice. This is partly due to its high efficiency levels and performance ratings. But also, your AC system will double up as a heater!<\/p>\n
A ductless AC and heating system is actually just like a central heat pump. And a heat pump is essentially a central air conditioner that runs in reverse. Refrigerant moves heat out of the home in the summer in order to cool it, as with any other AC system. But it also moves heat indoors in cooler weather, absorbing heat from the outdoor air\u2014even when it is quite chilly.<\/p>\n
The difference is in the way a ductless heat pump is set up and the way it distributes air. Since a technician cannot access a central blower unit, the ductless system consists of indoor blower units that move air directly into the room or zone they are located in.<\/p>\n
We should mention that ductless AC and heating is not the right choice for every home. If you already have a set of ducts in your home that can effectively cool or heat the entire home (or may be able to do so with a little renovating), then a ductless system is going to be a costly add-on that\u2019s not worth it. You should also know that an additional heater may be necessary for when temperatures approach freezing.<\/p>\n
