Why You Shouldn’t Install Your Air Conditioner Yourself

If you’ve ever searched for a tutorial on YouTube, you’ve probably found at least one video on the subject you were looking for. It seems like there’s a video for just about anything you want to learn how to do. When you combine the accessibility of YouTube videos with the fact that so many people are visual learners, it’s easy to see why it’s become so popular for DIYers.

However, there are some things you should never make a DIY attempt at, even if it seems like you’ve found a helpful tutorial. One of these is the installation of HVAC systems. Not only is it potentially dangerous, but you also run the risk of damaging the expensive system you just spent a hefty chunk of change on. Here are reasons you shouldn’t attempt a DIY AC installation in Colorado Springs.

It Could Void the Warranty

If the new air conditioner you spent a pretty penny on also includes a warranty, you should know that there are almost always stipulations that must be met to keep the warranty intact. One of these conditions is that it must be installed by a licensed, professional HVAC technician.

AC manufacturers forearm themselves with these required conditions. That’s because DIY jobs or installations done by amateurs so often result in an improper installation job. Don’t risk voiding your warranty by not having the system properly installed. You’ll be missing out on benefits such as covered AC repairs.

It Could Be Dangerous

There’s a reason why any legitimate HVAC contractor is licensed by the state and insured. It’s because they’ve applied for a license and met the stipulations to earn a business license. When you hire a professional, you can rest assured that your installation will be safe and risk-free.

A DIY job could expose your home and family to serious injuries when it’s not installed correctly. That’s because an air conditioner installation involves electricity and chemicals that if handled improperly, can both prove fatal. Attempts at wiring could lead to your accidental electrocution. The same is true of the chemicals used in HVAC systems which are dangerous when improperly handled by untrained individuals.

It Won’t Operate Efficiently

Let’s imagine the unlikely scenario where you’ve managed to install your air conditioner so that it works okay. You’ll soon find out that it doesn’t work nearly as efficiently as it would if a professional had installed it. There are a lot of factors we take into consideration when installing an AC to ensure peak performance and efficiency. A poorly installed AC will make your home uncomfortable, cause premature wear and tear, and increase your cooling costs.

It’ll Cost You More Money

Any money that you “save” by installing your AC yourself will be spent on repairs and worst-case scenarios, needing to buy another AC because it’s been damaged beyond repair.

The financial risk falls on you which means that you’re the one who’ll have to pay for repairs or when something goes wrong. This isn’t the case if you hire an HVAC professional to handle your AC installation. Any mistake made by an HVAC professional won’t cost you a dime because they’re licensed and insured. The same won’t be true of a DIY job.
